Stories enrich, enlighten, and enhance our environment. They define and detail the values and thoughts that pulse through our communities. Even in this electronic age books continue to record our current and remembered experiences, saving our stories for future generations.
Book Arts Summer in Salem celebrates the genius and accomplishments of artists creating handmade books. For the third consecutive year Historic Salem Courthouse presents a major show of book art. For this year’s exhibition, black artists – in dramatic and engaging volumes – honor often overlooked African-American inventors and cultural leaders. North Main Gallery features the inventive sculptural books and boxes of Maine artist Mary Howe. Bancroft Public Library showcases pop-up books by local young artists. Related festivities, celebrations, and workshops by neighborhood and visiting artists complement the exhibitions.
Share the book art excitement by purchasing the 20-page, full-color,
